I am a medical insurance company and I’m going to be honest.
When I was younger, I was lucky enough to be able to pay my bills and keep my head above water.
It was just like that for a long time.
The thought of a massive out-of-pocket expense just kept coming.
When my Medicare premiums hit the roof, I had to make some tough choices.
I didn’t want to pay for it.
I don’t want it to come to that.
I had a plan that paid for everything out of pocket, but I never thought it would cost me $200 a month.
I was so naive that I thought I could just jump into a savings account to save for that.
When you have the choice of saving for $200, you really don’t have that option.
And I was a single parent raising two kids on my own.
My wife and I have a couple of jobs.
I work two jobs and my kids do their own thing.
I would rather not pay for my health care costs than give up my home and my car.
But now, after more than two decades, it is just not affordable.
I am a nurse.
I’ve been a nurse for 15 years.
I have seen my fair share of patients.
There is a real stigma around health care in America.
When we’re on the phone with someone who needs care, we’re being told they are in a wheelchair or diabetic.
I think there is an unfortunate misconception about medical providers in America, and it’s not good.
It makes it difficult to communicate with people who need help.
When you see someone with a physical disability, you are supposed to be helping them to be functional.
But I’m seeing patients who are not doing their best.
They have mobility problems.
They can’t walk.
They’re having trouble talking to their doctors and nurses.
It’s hard for me to communicate that to them.
I want to give them the option of going to a physician and getting the treatment they need.
But that can be a lot of work.
We are all going to need that help.
I do have a hard time finding someone to talk to about their needs.
I am constantly on the lookout for help.
I think a lot is happening with the Medicare system.
Medicare is seeing a lot more of its own money going to people who are being paid more, so it’s getting more expensive for patients.
I’m a nurse, and I’ve seen people lose a lot because of that.
My mom, for example, was able to stay at home with her kids.
She didn’t need that medical care.
But she did have a job, and she was able be there.
I can imagine that the people who really need help, the seniors, the disabled, have less to spend on the system.
Medicare is not free to be patient.
I understand that.
I would rather pay for care with my own money than give my family a tax break.
But Medicare is going to get more expensive, and that is a very bad thing for me personally.
It will not make me more or less financially independent.
Medicaid has been criticized for not paying for mental health care and not paying people for physical care.
The Affordable Care Act was passed with a goal of helping those people pay for their care, and Medicare has been very good at paying for care.
It paid for mental-health care in the first year.
The program is getting better, but we still have a long way to go.
There are some limitations that we have to live with.
Medicare has a long list of issues with its program.
It has to deal with the rising costs of prescription drugs.
We have to deal also with the increased cost of mental health.
We are a long ways from reaching a world where everybody can afford health insurance.
That is not going to happen.
It is a goal we are still working toward, and we are moving towards it.
The Medicare program is a great thing.
I hope it will continue to grow.
But it’s going to cost a lot, and in my view, we need to make sure that we are paying for it in a way that doesn’t hurt the economy.
